POWER is often thought of as a dirty word, especially by survivors of abuse and other traumas. Power corrupts. Power is violent. Power oppresses. Power is for someone more worthy.
But power is everyone's right:
Power to protect yourself and others.
Power to follow your dreams.
Power to feel at home in your body.
But abuse leaves survivors feeling powerless, tense, vulnerable.
BEAT uses simple movement and mindfulness exercises which will explore and change physical, emotional and cognitive responses you may have developed to survive trauma, but which are now keeping you from living fully and happily. These exercises are safe for everyone, with no falling.
Imagine feeling comfortable in your own skin, without fear.
Imagine feeling able to act on your dreams.
Imagine feeling open to love and joy.
Imagine feeling free to be you.
BEAT will help you achieve all of this and more.
You have heard it all: "Just get over it." "The past is the past." "Move on." "Forgive and forget." You may have talked about it, but what you feel in your body follows you, eats at you, imprisons you.
BEAT will help you actually feel, move, be differently.
"This is an amazing, life-changing course. Highly recommended!!" - B.E.A.T. grad
BEAT somatic education trauma recovery classes are offered for small groups. It is applicable to all kinds of trauma, even the "normal" stuff we all live through from birth onwards. It is not talk therapy; it is physical therapy for the mind and spirit. Safety of participants - not only being safe, but also feeling safe - is stressed. People of all levels of physical fitness and ability may participate.
We also offer Train the Trainer classes for people who may incidentally or directly interact with survivors and who want to better understand and fulfill their needs. We will use many of the same exercises and principles of Aikido to help develop a sense of relaxed awareness which will enrich your own life and work as well. Martial Arts instructors, coaches, teachers, family members, even therapists can all benefit.
Classes take place in our peaceful, private center. Please contact Janice to join or arrange a class. All calls, messages and emails are strictly confidential. Download registration form.
